Step 1

Mounting byhe run should take place in appropriate and recommended weather conditions, i.e. at temperatures of +5°C and above. C to +25st. C. It is also advisable to have your patio laid by professionals.

Substrate preparation.

The substrate should be stable, dry, firm and level. Please note that a slope is required, minimum 1% to allow water to run off from and under the terrace. The terrace can be laid on a surface such as:
* Concrete with a thickness of 10-15 cm,
Compacted sand, 10-15 cm thick, cemented with embedded concrete blocks.
* concrete screed
*Reinforced concrete slab
*steel or wooden structure with suitably prepared scaffolding, adapted to take scaffolding which has been suitably prepared and is capable of taking the appropriate loads, i.e. in accordance with the art of construction.

Step 2

Salag_Bergdeck_assembly instructionsPreparation of joists for installation.

Joists are the element on which the entire terrace construction rests. They must lie completely flush with the foundation. The recommended laying direction of the beams is along the gradient. Lay the beams parallel to each other with a maximum distance of 40 cm. An expansion joint of 5-10 mm is recommended between walls, facades and other fixed elements to which the terrace will be attached. If the board edge ends at the end of the beam, an overlap is required by placing another beam next to the other.

Attention: Each end of a board should be supported by a beam. Every single beam must have at least 3 fixing points. Maximum distance of the beam from the end of the board to the edge of the terrace - up to 6 cm.

Method of fixing the joists A.

The upper and lower wall of the beam (beam chamber) should be drilled every 50-60 cm with a drill bit with the diameter of the screw. In this way we mark places on the previously prepared substrate where the dowel will be placed after shifting the beam. Next, drill a hole in the upper wall of the beam to allow the head of the screw to pass through. Through the holes made this way, we fix the beam to the substrate with an expansion bolt. (The manufacturer does not provide expansion bolts). Attention: During drilling an alternate arrangement of holes should be maintained, one left and one right chamber of the fastened joist, so called "passing by".

Method of fixing the joists B.

The joists are fixed with metal angle brackets. (The manufacturer does not provide these elements). The angle should be fixed to the substrate with dowels. The angle bar should be fixed to the beam wall with wood screws for approximately 7-20 mm length. Between 3 and 5 angle brackets should be used for fixing the joist to the foundation. Angle bars should be fixed approx. 6 cm from the ends of the beams laid alternately.

Step 3

Laying of decking boards.

Place the boards perpendicular to the mounted joists. Please note that the board ends must be supported by the joists. The board is fixed to the beam with a fixing clip and a stainless steel screw (Bergdeck special assembly kit).

The installation of the first board starts with fixing the starter clips with screws at the end of each beam. This ensures that the expansion gap is maintained and the board is fixed to the wall and to the joists.

Slide the board into the starter clip. On the other side apply the fixing clip and drill a 3 mm diameter hole in the groove running through the centre of the joist.

Then insert the screw into the fixing clip and the pre-drilled hole.

Tighten the elements in such a way as to leave a gap of at least 1 mm between the fixing clip and the board to be screwed.

Slide another board under the clip and tighten the screws. The fixing clips have to be on both sides of the board, opposite to each other. The fixing clips ensure an expansion gap of approx. 5 mm between the boards.

When the boards are butt jointed, an expansion joint of 5 mm must be maintained.
If it is necessary to cut the board lengthwise, make the cut not further than 6 mm from the inner wall of the board chamber.

The installation of the last board, after pre-drilling the hole, has to be finished by screwing a screw directly to the joist.

Slide another board under the clip and tighten the screws. The fixing clips have to be on both sides of the board, opposite to each other. The fixing clips ensure an expansion gap of approx. 5 mm between the boards. When the boards are joined face to face, a 5mm expansion gap must be maintained. If it is necessary to cut the board lengthwise, make sure the cut is no further than 6mm from the inside wall of the board chamber. The installation of the last board, after pre-drilling the hole, has to be finished by screwing the screw directly to the beam.

Terrace finish.

Bergdeck offers a wide range of terrace finishing elements, such as flat cover strips, quarter rounds, angle brackets and end caps.

Staircase laying.

Attention: The ideal situation is shown here - a comfortable staircase for a 17.5 cm high tread and 31-33 cm high riser without cutting and joining the boards! Place the beams vertically on the riser and horizontally on the tread. Cut the beams to the required length and fix them to the concrete steps with dowels. Joists should be placed at a maximum distance of 40 cm from each other. Please note that the edges of the stairs must be lined and secured with joists so that the board placed on them has a support.

The step is placed with the help of a quarter round, which connects the tread with the riser. Only after this element has been assembled, we place the tread. Place the tread with a fixing clip just as you would place a terrace.

Methods of installing treads:

I. Fasten the board on the riser directly to the joists with screws.Salag_Bergdeck_assembly_instruction_A4 #bergdeck

II. The board on the tread is fixed by sliding the board on the tread into the starter clip. The board is at the same time presses on the tread.Salag_Bergdeck_assembly_instruction_A4
